Rotating Tires on FWD and RWD Vehicles

The tire rotation pattern varies depending on the type of drive train you have. If you drive a FWD or RWD vehicle around Salem, keep these tips in mind:

  • Tire rotation for FWD and RWD should happen every 5,000 to 7,500 miles.
  • When rotating tires on a FWD, flip the sides when moving the rear tires. For example, the rear right tire should go to the front left position. But, when moving the front tires to the back positions, keep them on the same side.
  • When rotating tires on a RWD vehicle, do the opposite of above. Flip the sides when moving the front tires to the rear, but keep the rear tires on the same side when you bring them forward.
  • Your driving habits, like off-roading, may influence how often you should rotate your tires. Talk with the service team at Lum's GMC to get a better idea of a tire rotation schedule that fits your lifestyle.

AWD Tire Rotation Tips

If you drive an all-wheel drive (AWD) around Newberg, the power from your engine goes to every wheel. That means that tire rotation will need to be done every 3,000 – 5,000 miles. You should also follow this tire rotation pattern:

  1. The left rear tire goes to the right front spot.
  2. The right rear tire goes to the left front spot.
  3. The right front tire goes to the left rear spot.
  4. The left front tire goes to the right rear spot.
